About Me

As far back as I can remember I loved to make things. My mother taught me how to sew, my grandmothers how to knit and crochet, and throughout school I loved art classes. Everything else, I’m pretty much self taught. I love the internet. Now you can just type in “How to…?” and get instructions, tips, whatever.

I come from a family of do-it-yourselfers and I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. So, from remodeling rooms, designing and building woodworking projects to assorted needlework, party planning and cake decorating… I love it all. Give me a theme and my mind starts turning over all sorts of possibilities.

I am a mother of two grown men and grandmother of five, four wonderful girls and one great boy. Not sure how that happened so fast, as I still feel (for the most part) like a person in her thirties! I am still amazed and proud that my boys have grown up to be such good people and great parents along with their spouses.

I worked in the publishing business for several years. First as a step-by-step painter for a national painting magazine, then as a designer/builder/writer/photo stylist for a woodworking magazine. Really a dream job. After that I worked for a small local newspaper as the graphic designer. The fast-paced job of creating ads and laying out the paper to make it visually interesting was fun…even making the deadlines was fun. Kept me on my toes and kept my creative juices flowing. But, the print mediums are disappearing, especially small companies. I left publishing and went to work at one of my favorite stores, Rockler Woodworking. Love woodworking!

As a person who has always loved art and design I was thrilled to discover fondant and gum paste years ago. I started making specialty cakes for family and friends and find it really a creative outlet for me. I love to be able to take a theme, or as in the case of my granddaughters, specific requests and create a one-of-a-kind, beautiful cake.

I’m going to share my projects on this website and hope to encourage and/or inspire others to just try it…whatever it is!

Don’t be afraid to learn something new… it’s always been fun for me!
